Peggy’s Cove is located along the south coast of Nova Scotia. It’s a small fishing village that contains colourful houses, quaint shops and bustling restaurants. It is home to Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, which is one of the most famous and photographed lighthouses in Canada.
Our road trip through Nova Scotia was coming to an end. After spending the morning in Halifax we headed to Peggy’s Cove for one last adventure. It’s about a 45 minute drive to get there and most of the drive was along the incredibly scenic Lighthouse Route.
Peggy’s Cove was popping this afternoon and parking was limited. We had to wait a bit to find a spot near the Visitor Information Centre. From there it’s a short walk to reach the lighthouse. There was a breeze coming in off the water, which felt divine. I even had to put on a sweater for a bit of warmth, which was a first on this trip. Along the way we stopped to admire just how cute everything was. The small houses, shops and boats. And then there’s the views of the ocean.

We reached Peggy’s Point Lighthouse. It was built in 1915 and is located on a rocky granite outcrop at the entrance of St. Margaret’s Bay. It’s still operated by the Canadian Coast Guard. There’s a viewing platform from afar and a somewhat paved path that leads closer to the barren rocks and lighthouse.

We made our way across the rocks to get a closer look at the ocean. There were a few warning signs about the unpredictable surf and to stay off the dark, wet rocks. A few people have actually been swept into the water over the past couple of years. It took a bit of patience to take a picture of the lighthouse without anyone in it, but thankfully baby M was in a good mood.

We continued along the Lighthouse Route towards Bridgewater, briefly stopping at Mahone Bay to check it out. We didn’t stay long as our flight home was early the next morning and I still had the fun task of packing our suitcases.

The Canadian Province of Nova Scotia is a beautiful and fun destination to explore, especially the area of Peggy’s Cove. I love how the colourful houses are perched on the cliffs along the ocean with the large slabs of granite and tall pine trees making for a uniquely beautiful surrounding.
As a lighthouse lover, I’d be shrieking with joy upon feasting my eyes on Peggy’s Point Lighthouse. It’s quite amazing how the Lighthouse is surrounded by soft, smooth rocks that give the Lighthouse a more unique look than many others. The rocks go a good distance around the Lighthouse out to the ocean, leaving plenty of room for visitors to walk around and get the best views! Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Agreed, Nova Scotia is very beautiful. There’s so many vibrant towns, historic houses and charming lighthouses. It was fitting to end our visit at Peggy’s Cove, one of the most iconic spots in the province. It was nice to see it from a distance and up close along the rocks. Thanks so much for reading Aiva. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Linda.
Beautiful pictures, Linda. That lighthouse is so iconic and you managed to get good shots in that busy tourist area. Yes, you must have been patient to get one without people in it! I haven’t seen it for a long time but your post brought back good memories. Cheers.
Thanks for your kind words. It took a bit of waiting and wandering around the rocks to finally get a picture without any randoms in it! It was such a nice day outside and with beautiful scenery like that, I don’t think my husband or baby M minded so much.
The lighthouse is in good condition considering its age, the striations of the rocks are amazing. Peggy had a lovely cove! 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
The lighthouse is very well maintained as it’s one of the most popular tourist spots in the province. It’s such a charming area and the views of the rocky coastline are beautiful.
I’d love to see this in person!
You’d love it. So many beautiful things to photograph – lighthouses, colourful houses and the rugged coastline.
Rugged indeed! ❤️🇨🇦
Looks wonderful and peaceful . Great Pictures .
Thanks for your kind words and for leaving a comment. There’s always something so peaceful about being by the water. Despite the wind and crowds, it was such a lovely day.
I wish I did a bit more research on the lighthouses along the east coast before we went to see it. They were all wonderful and had a lot of history associated with it. I guess the lighthouses were important structures especially the last century.
I know what you mean. Nova Scotia is home to over 160 lighthouses. We only saw a handful of them. It would be neat to return someday and go on a scavenger hunt to try to find them all. And yes, goes to show how much they were needed to help navigate around the rocky coastline.
Peggy’s Cove is a charming settlement! Great photos of the lighthouse, I can certainly see why it’s so famous and popular with travellers. For a structure that’s over 100 years old, it’s really well preserved.
For sure. No wonder it’s one of the most popular tourist spots in Nova Scotia! I’m just glad we managed to find parking!! In retrospect we probably should have tried to visit on a weekday.
Peggy’s Cove has long been one of my favourite spots in N.S. since I first saw it in 1975. If you can’t find a nice photo there in any weather, you are not really trying. In good weather, the photos are stellar and yours are certainly that Linda. Three things we recall from our 1999 trip to Mahone Bay with our boys 1) The beautiful scene of the three churches across the bay 2) huge ice cream cones from Seaside Creamery I think and 3) the beautiful fashions of Suttles and Seawinds . Have a good weekend Linda. Allan
Thanks for your lovely comment. I totally get why Peggy’s Cove is so popular. Agreed, it’s impossible to take a bad picture of the lighthouse, town and surrounding scenery. The biggest challenge is trying to get a good picture without any randoms in it though!! We wish we could have spent more time in Mahone Bay. That ice cream sounds like it was delicious if you still remember it! Next time! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Linda
I’ve read about Peggy’s Cove and this scenic part of Nova Scotia and I’d love to visit sometime to view it’s quaint houses, lighthouse and coastline.
It’s such a lovely little area. It’s also conveniently near Halifax along with a few other charming coastal towns like Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. I hope you’re able to visit someday. You’d love it there!

Thanks! I’m such a fan of lighthouses too. There are over 160 of them in Nova Scotia. We only saw a few of them, but would be neat to return someday and try to visit them all.

Same dear you too 🌷🙏🥰. Most welcome 🙏
Peggy’s Cove looks absolutely delightful. We will have to add it to our itinerary when we visit Nova Scotia.
Peggy’s Cove is very charming. It’s also conveniently close to Halifax and a few other cute coastal towns like Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. It’s definitely worth adding to your itinerary. It’s very touristy, but for a good reason!
What a charming little town. Everything looks so weathered. It gives it a more realistic, non-commercial vibe. Nice photos.
Thanks for your kind words. Peggy’s Cove is a very cute coastal town. I can easily see why it’s so popular. Everything looked so picturesque.
The sunny day helped create some crisp, vividly stunning photographs! I would be tempted to immerse myself in the tide pool at the very end of the post. But I imagine it’s freezing 🥶
Oh for sure. The sun always makes the water look more vibrant. But yes, I imagine the water is quite frigid even during the middle of summer!
Peggy’s Cove looks like a nice place to just chill. I love how the village appears very laid back. And that lighthouse looks glorious on such a fine, sunny day! Did you stop by one of the restaurants and try their seafood? I can imagine how fresh it must have been.
Peggy’s Cove definitely has a relaxing vibe to it, especially on a beautiful day during the middle of summer. We didn’t stop at any of the restaurants as we weren’t sure how patient baby M would have been! We could have done takeaway, but we still had some food to finish up before flying home the next morning.
Peggy’s Cove is as beautiful as a painting, with everything perfectly placed and looking as if it hasn’t changed in a long time. I also had fun jumping on the big rocks to find the best angle for the lighthouse.
Oh for sure. I totally get why this place is so popular. And yes, exploring the rocks was definitely a lot of fun. They did a pretty decent job of hiding all the people too.
Idyllic beauty, totally charming 🙂
No doubt! Peggy’s Cove is incredibly picturesque and charming. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.
Peggy’s Cove was such a highlight for us when we visited in 2018. Loved it and you’re right, it is a popping place and those unpredictable surfs are so scary. We did enjoy a lovely lobster roll lunch that day though that I still think about!
It looks like you had a beautiful day and glad you got a nice photo of the lighthouse too! We didn’t have the patience to wait. 😂
I totally get why Peggy’s Cove is so popular. It’s hard not to fall in love with all the cute colourful houses, the picturesque lighthouse and beautiful coastal scenery. There were so many warning signs about the unpredictable surf. I guess they don’t call them sneak waves for nothing! I almost gave up trying to get my picture, but I’m glad my stubbornness made me wait a few more minutes. Thankfully baby M was in her element and didn’t seem to mind waiting.
It’s absolutely beautiful and I can see why the lighthouse is so widely photographed. I’d love to visit one day 🙂
Oh I know! I’m glad we had wonderful weather to enjoy the scenery and sights. I hope you’re able to see it for yourself someday. There’s so many cute coastal towns in Nova Scotia.
Beautiful scenery!
I’m glad we had blue skies and sunshine to better appreciate the scenery. It was tough to leave!
This is so pretty! I’ve seen photos of Peggy’s Cove before but never actually looked up where it’s located. Yet another reason for me to return to Nova Scotia. What a great end to your trip!
It’s super close to Halifax, which is very convenient. It’s also close to a few other charming coastal towns like Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. And yes, it was a fabulous way to close out our road trip across Nova Scotia.
Oh, the iconic Peggy’s Cove!
You are so patient to wait for the perfect photo. That’s framing worthy. Good thing you’ve got an Angel Baby.
I hope your flight home was quiet and uneventful.
I am looking forward to reading about your next adventure.
Cheers! Alisen
Peggy’s Cove is very charming. No wonder it was so busy! But then again we were visiting on a Saturday afternoon during the middle of summer on a beautiful day. We probably should have timed things better, but it all seemed to work out. And yes, Baby M is definitely a little angel. Somehow I don’t think she’ll be nearly as patient as she gets older!!
The flight home went really well. It’s only 2.5 hours and M mostly slept. She really is an angel 🙂
Beautiful countryside and Lighthouse that stays in memory
Absolutely. Peggy’s Cove and the lighthouse were such a highlight of our trip across Nova Scotia. Spending the afternoon there was a wonderful way to end our trip.

That it is! Peggy’s Cove is very charming with all those colourful houses and shops. Plus it’s always so peaceful being by the water.
No matter how many pictures I’ve seen of Peggy’s Cove, it’s beautiful every time (and I bet even better to see it in person). And of course, it’s always nice to see a lighthouse. Oh, the packing of suitcases … that’s usually when I wonder how I got everything in there the first time 😁. Lovely photos.
Thanks! Peggy’s Cove is very picturesque. I totally get why it’s so popular. I’m glad we had fabulous weather to stroll through the town and explore along the rocks near the lighthouse. I often wonder the same thing after packing our suitcases. And somehow I think we take more stuff every time we travel!

It looks beautifulllll, it strangely reminds me of David Copperfield!
Peggy’s Cove is very cute, colourful and charming. It definitely looks a bit magical!
We have not done a lot of travel in Canada (shame on us). Nova Scotia is on my list of places to see – that and Newfoundland. Peggy’s Cove looks so relaxing and quaint. Cheers!

Hard to go wrong with lighthouse pictures. And small coastal towns are always fun.
I’m convinced it’s impossible to take a bad picture when the scenery is that beautiful! Agreed, the small fishing villages are always a lot of fun. And there’s so many of them in Nova Scotia!
Love quaint places like these. They definitely feel more welcoming than big cities.
Oh I know. And Nova Scotia has no shortage of small fishing villages. They’re all so cute and charming. Plus the coastal views never get old.
One of my favourite places in NS. It just oozes charm 🙂 Not sure how I missed so many of your posts lately. Maggie
That it does! There are so many charming coastal towns in Nova Scotia. We were clearly saving the best for last!! And oh the joys of WP. I’ve had issues with posts not showing up in my Reader as well.
The lighthouse is so dramatic, perched on that unusual rock formation. I stayed there quite a while, some years ago, just taking it all in. Looks like you had a beautiful day.
I get why Peggy’s Cove is so popular. The scenery is lovely and the lighthouse is charming. I’m glad we had fabulous weather to soak it all in.
This is an area I might have to just come back to Canada haha- as if I need anymore reasons. I love lighthouses . My friend A and I enjoyed light house sites when we traveled to Erie. It was so nice . We stayed at an air BNB. That was my first time doing so . It was before matt and I lived together so it was eye opening to the joy of living in your own with only one person, very peaceful. The lighthouses were so nice to see. I would like to go back there, too.
As it happens, Nova Scotia has the most lighthouses compared to other Canadian provinces. So you’d definitely love it there. It would be fun to go on a road trip to try to find them all. We’ve been meaning to visit Erie since it’s not too far from us. Maybe this summer.
Yes, you totally should !!!!! It’s beautiful
